Girl Crush | Misty Copeland

So for some who know me, it's no shock that I have a love of dance, mostly ballet, but most "structured" forms delight me.  I note the "structure" because you can not take me out clubbing.  I have no rhythm and I'm pretty sure twerking is not high on my skills list.  At any rate, I needed some reading for our trip back to Indiana for the Indy 500 in May and came across Misty's book on Amazon.

If you're unfamiliar with Misty, you can check out her page here.  But the short story is as follows, Misty started ballet at the age of 13 (which is actually rather old for most dancers to start).  She started dancing en pointe just 3 months later (most people train for years before they are ready).  But Misty didn't have that traditional dancer's body - you know the super tiny, no chest, toned arms/legs, no real visible muscles that often gets associated with the ballet. But she kept at it because its what she loved and in 2007 she became the third African American soloist with the American Ballet Theatre.  You'll catch Misty in one of the latest Under Armor ads (seen here) and if you're a Prince fan, she danced on tour and videos with him several times.
